Radio - The Rock

Perfect Reception at The Rock

Pennine Telecom got a perfect reception from a new £350 million pound retail and leisure complex in Bury by providing a new state-of-the-art digital two-way radio system.

Pennine Telecom tuned in to The Rock development by installing a Motorola TRBOnet radio system which is now being used by security, cleaning and customer service personnel to help keep around 250,000 weekly visitors and hundreds of staff safe, happy and informed. They are equipped with 25 digital MOTOTRBO portable radios which are linked to the centre’s control room where the PC-based system works alongside an extensive CCTV network which covers the 600,000 sq.ft site.

TRBOnet provides The Rock with an impressive range of features including GPS logging which Motorola MOTOTRBO Digital radio equipmentenables the control centre to locate security staff on screen as they patrol a complex which boasts many night-time attractions including eight restaurants, a ten pin bowling alley and cinema multiplex. The log gives details of each radio subscriber’s location and can be configured to provide updates at set intervals, on demand or when an emergency button is triggered. It can even provide details of speed and direction, historical location and route data, details of when a subscriber enters or exits specific routes or areas and the on or offline status of their radio, GPS or alarm.

The TRBOnet system also underpins the professionalism of the security contractor, Shield Guarding, by enabling call recording, event and call logging and providing broadcast, group, personal, remote monitor and emergency call capabilities. It’s also a highly cost effective and secure solution as it provides The Rock two channels which enable security communications to be separated from those of other staff.

According to The Rock’s Centre Director, David Laycock, Pennine won the five-figure contract to supply, install and maintain the radio network on the basis of cost, service and expertise.   “Pennine demonstrated extensive experience and expertise in this field which gave us tremendous confidence that they could deliver on time and on budget, and that’s exactly what they did. We’re also greatly reassured by the fact that we have responsive, ongoing professional support for what is a vital part of our daily operations.”
